An international trade consultant oversees trade between countries. Basically, they make business transactions easier. To become an international trade consultant, you will need a bachelor’s degree in international trade, finance, or marketing. You will also need a graduate degree. There is major competition for this type of job, so be aware.
You will need work experience. You will probably want to get an internship and study abroad. If you have either or both of these on your resume, your chances at getting a job as an international trade consultant will be much higher. You will want to get work experience from a more private source as well such as an import/export firm. This way, you will get experience trading between different countries.
You will definitely want to try to get an internship with the International Trade Division of the Department of Commerce. You will have a very high chance of being hired as an international trade consultant after graduation.
Contact consulting firms in your area and ask about their hiring process. Some of these firms are devoted to international trade. You may want to post your resume on the Internet on a job search website. You may also want to contact a recruiter who has experience. They may be able to get you a job in no time. You will also want to take at least two years of a foreign language in college, if not more. You will have a much better chance at getting hired if you can speak more than one language. You will most likely need more than two years of a foreign language. That is just the minimum. Learn to read, write, and speak the language as well as understand it. You may even want to learn a few languages.
